What are the causes of overheating of screw pump?

Screw pump, as a commonly used fluid conveying equipment, is widely used in various fields. However, in the process of use, sometimes there will be overheating of the screw pump, which will not only affect the normal operation of the pump, but also may cause safety problems. This paper will aim at the causes of overheating screw pump, put forward some reference directions.

1. We need to understand the working principle of screw pump

A screw pump is a pump that transmits liquid through the rotating movement of a screw. It is mainly composed of screw, pump body, bearing and seal. When the screw rotates in the pump body, the liquid is sucked and squeezed out with the rotation of the screw. In this process, the screw pump will generate a lot of heat.

2. What are the causes of overheating of the screw pump?

1) Mechanical friction. The friction between the internal parts of the screw pump is one of the main causes of heat generation. Long periods of operation can cause wear on components such as bearings and seals, which increases friction and generates a lot of heat. In addition, foreign matter entering the pump can also cause mechanical friction, resulting in an increase in temperature.

2) Fluid friction. When conveying high-viscosity fluids, the friction between the fluid and the inner wall of the pump generates a lot of heat, resulting in an increase in the temperature of the pump body. The higher the viscosity of the fluid, the more heat is generated by friction.

3) Lack of lubrication and cooling. Screw pumps require a good lubrication and cooling system to maintain normal operation. If the lubricating oil supply is insufficient or the cooling water circulation is faulty, the heat cannot be dissipated in time, thus overheating the pump body.

4) Motor failure. If the drive motor of the screw pump fails, such as winding short circuit, bearing damage, etc., it will cause the motor to overheat, resulting in overheating of the entire pump system.

5) Media problems. If the conveying medium contains impurities or corrosive substances, it will cause damage to the internal parts of the pump and cause local high temperature. In addition, the high temperature of the medium will also cause the temperature of the pump body to rise.

3. How do we solve the problem of overheating screw pump?

1) Regular maintenance and inspection. Carry out regular maintenance and inspection of the screw pump to ensure that the components are intact and the lubrication and cooling system is operating normally. Timely replacement of severely worn parts to avoid excessive heat due to mechanical friction.

2) Choose the right lubricating oil and cooling water. Select the appropriate lubricating oil and cooling water according to the working conditions of the screw pump to ensure that the pump is fully lubricated and cooled during operation. At the same time, check the supply of lubricating oil and cooling water regularly to ensure that it is sufficient and no leakage.
